The Shawtown High School Alumni Association celebrated the birthday, life, and services of, one of our two eldest alumni members, Ms. Beatrice B. Hill.
Beatrice Bailey Hill, of Lillington, N.C., was recently honored by Campbell University’s School of Education at the Education Convocation on Feb. 14. Hill was the first recipient of the Distinguished Service Award, an honor recognizing those who have made numerous contributions to their professions and communities. As a teacher (20 years+) and Harnett County Commissioner (16 years), Ms. Hill’s contributions to Harnett County are tremendous; she served as Vice Chairperson of the Harnett County Board of Commissioners. Ms. Hill graduated from North Carolina A&T State University (BS) and a master’s degree in education. She received the Distinguished Service Award from Campbell University/ School of Education as the first recipient of the award.
In thanking alumni members for recognizing her 99th birthday, she stated that she wants to make it known that she supports the alumni in efforts to put the building on the property. She said “I support you all. I am saving cans to contribute to the building fund; I have about $26.00 worth of cans, now. I am asking all of you for support for this building. I would like to see it before …………; well, while I am still here. I want to see it.”
Alumni members were treated to pizza, cake, and drink as we socialized and talked of Ms. Hill’s contribution to the alumni association and its efforts to of putting a building on the property.
